Spartanburg Regional to buy Mary Black Health System

Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System (SRHS) has reached an agreement with Community Health Systems to purchase the Mary Black Health System.

 

Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System (SRHS) has reached an agreement with Community Health Systems to purchase the Mary Black Health System including its 207-bed Mary Black Memorial Hospital in Spartanburg and the 125-bed hospital (MBMH) in Gaffney.

The purchase price was not announced.

The transaction is expected to close by the end of the fourth quarter. Community Health Systems, Inc. is one of the nation’s leading operators of general acute care hospitals. Community Health Systems operate or lease 117 hospitals in 20 states with approximately 19,000 beds.

The transaction includes all physician clinics and outpatient services associated with the two hospitals, which will become part of SRHS.

More than 8,000 associates will be employed at SRHS when the deal is closed and SRHS will operate six hospitals in Spartanburg, Union and Cherokee counties.

Spartanburg Regional owns and operates four hospitals:

• Spartanburg Medical Center, • Pelham Medical Center,

• Spartanburg Hospital for Restorative Care,

• Union Medical Center.

SRHS also owns the Medical Group of the Carolinas, a network of more than 350 physicians.
