“Squeaky Joe” Patrick Quinn and Hannah Clayton were eliminated from Greer Idol and Anna McCleer and William “Nick” Boggs were ousted from Teen Idol.
The second round of the 5-week competition is Friday night at the Greer Amphitheater and will be on the lineup with Tunes in the Park. Jim Quick and the Coastline Band will perform. All performances are free to the public.
Three singers will be eliminated from each division after this week’s performances. Three more cuts will occur on July 12, two on July 19 and the finals are July 26.
“Squeaky Joe” was the sentimental favorite for his past work in New York City lounges in the theater district in the 1970s. McCleer was the surprise elimination after reaching the final three last year.
“It breaks my heart any time I have to tell someone they are cut,” Robin Byouk, Greer Cultural Arts Supervisor, said.
Byouk said the singers were eliminated by the mathematics of the system.
The scores this year are figured with 60 percent of the vote on site and 40 percent on-line combined to represent a total 40 percent of the final score. Judges scores are weighted as 60 percent of the total.
Due to the hour allowed for the 26 contestants Saturday, each were held to a 1:40 performance.
