The Chocolate Toad and Stomping Grounds on Trade St. in Greer are among the many restaurants donating a portion of proceeds to Hospice this week.

The Greater Greer Education Foundation raised $42,235 at its Education Gala held Oct. 26 at the Cannon Centre.
The Gala is the Foundation’s only fundraising event.
Lisa Hawkins Lynn found inspiration in a 16-year-old girl’s mission to build churches abroad. Leanna Morris, through Samaritan’s Purse, is raising money to build churches, about $15,000 each, in countries like Egypt, India, Bolivia or third-world nations.
Lynn is all-in supporting Morris and her ministry. "Marne Hannon asked me to help, so when introduced me to Leanna, I instantly knew I wanted to be a part of this bigger picture." said Lynn.
"I am a numbers person. Since school the numbers 1-1-3 have followed me,” Lisa said. “113 was my bus number, my locker was 113, my first cashier’s number was 113 . . . everything I touched was 113.”
Lisa laughed when she described her grandfather’s emotional tie to 1-1-7. “We had 117 engraved on his gravesite, as a joke.”
It’s so hot the Stomping Grounds is cooking outdoors.
The temperature read 104 degrees, the hottest on record for this date in Greer. Lisa Suber, owner of the popular Greer coffee shop used the occasion to try the theory “How hot does it have to be to fry an egg outside on asphalt?”
Katelyn Wade, a fresman at Greer High School, is the 2012 Miss Greater Greer Princess crowned this morning at the Village Hospital Greer Family Fest.
Thirty-eight contestants vied for eight Miss awards, photogenic and participation awards. There were several ties in categories forcing the judges to have a second look at the contestants on stage.
Noel Riddle will perform Friday and Saturday 7-10:30 p.m. at The Stomping Grounds.

Sixteen restaurants and food vendors will be at the Village Hospital Greer Family Fest May 4-5. Seven restaurants will occupy the Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport Food Court in City Park. Nine other vendors will be located throughout the festival.
“We are excited to offer a variety of food choices and options in our Greenville- Spartanburg Airport Food Court and throughout the festival. We hope people will eat lunch and dinner with us as well as treat themselves to some traditional festival food.” stated Dana Martin, of the Greater Greer Chamber of Commerce.
Saddle up and giddy-yap to The Stomping Grounds Saturday night. Steve Porter will recite Cowboy Poetry in a unique portray of his passion for horses and the Western lifestyle.
Cowboy poetry is a form of storytelling that preserves the tales (both tall and true) of life in the rural West. The reading is 8-10 p.m. at the 208 Trade Street coffee and wine bar.
Jessica Monroe is turning her 30th birthday into a party Thursday at The Davenport to benefit animals.
Saved by the Heart Companion Animal Services is the fundraiser host from 8 p.m. – midnight.
The Stomping Grounds, quickly becoming the place to visit and the place to be seen, has annnounced its upcoming entertainment and guest schedule. It includes music, parties, a political greet-and-meet and a poety reading.
Lisa Suber, owner/operator, invites customers to visit the Stomping Grounds for breakfast or enjoy a variety of coffees while perusing the Internet.

A mini-festival is brewing at The Shoppes at The Grapevine open house Thursday.
Wanda Garcia, owner of The Shoppes, has planned an evening, 5:30 - 8:30 p.m., that will include music, appetizers and wine. About 40 small business owners will showcase their products that include clothing, arts, crafts, repurposed furniture, candles and signature handcrafted merchandise.
Things will be hopping at the Stomping Grounds Coffee and Wine Bar with entertainment scheduled on six of the next nine evenings.
Lisa Suber, owner/operator, has scheduled Timeless Tunes on Fridays with Lacie on the piano tonight from 7:30 - 10:30 p.m. Saturday features open mic Poetry Night and Pop Cello with Sharon Gerber from 7:30 - 10:30 p.m.
The Greer Station Association’s first edition cookbook “A Taste of Greer Station” is on sale. From unique appetizers to succulent main courses to decadent desserts, the cookbook features over 90 recipes from Greer Station contributors.
The cookbook includes BIN112’s unique 5 cheese pimento cheese, Rivera’s okra perlau and Wild Ace’s baked spinach and red pepper frittata.
