Greer Cultural Arts Council was approved for $4,000 to promote four plays by the Greer Children’s Theatre during the 2016-2017 season.

Greer’s fine arts community was awarded two Accommodations Tax Grants totaling $14,125 Tuesday night at Greer City Council.

The City Auditorium Art Gallery was awarded $10,125 to provide lighting, hardware and signage for the building entrances on Line Street and Snow Street.

That grant follows City Council’s $100,000 approval last month for the renovation of Phase I of the structure. The original plan began at $60,000 and another $40,000 was added at the same meeting when reportedly squirrels were found nesting in the structure and chewing through CPW fiber optic cables.

The facility is being improved as a visual and performing arts center. Artists will be among the first tenants.

Greer Cultural Arts Council was approved for $4,000 to be used to advertising four plays by the Greer Children’s Theatre during the 2016-2017 season. The goal is to contribute to the overall development of a cultural arts district in the city.

The GCT just finished with a two weekend run of Disney’s Lion King, Jr., at the J. Harley Bonds Career Center.
