Washington Center began the 2013-14 school year with a Meet Your Teacher Afternoon as staff welcomed students and families on the main and early education campus.

The Washington Center PTA, headed by Jane Hart and Karen Grindstaff, greeted parents with the opportunity for PTA involvement.  PTA board members also include Carla Burkhardt, vice president;  Sarah Jane Tollison, treasurer and Michelle Richey, secretary. Susan Budd serves as the PTA liaison for Washington Center at Hollis.

Under the leadership of Principal Dr. Wanda Brownlee, the focus remains on promoting student abilities.

Washington Center teachers began the new school year with learning projects, thanks to the generosity of the PTA. Twelve teacher grants were financed, affording the students creative educational activities. Funding includes purchases of instructional internet programs, software, craft supplies, field trips, sensory resources and hands-on teaching materials.

The annual spring PTA sponsored Walk & Roll event, next scheduled for April 26, 2014, provides the major source of income for the instructional enrichment activity grants.

Jean Ashmore’s students at Washington Center started the new school year by discussing each grade level in her class.  With students varying from first grade to fifth, each was able to construct, see and touch a large number to decorate for their own new grade. The fancy numerals then adorned the school hallway .
