Long-time Greenville County School District educator Smiley Broadus Williams died Friday. Williams, 99, was from Greer.

Williams’ teaching career was throughout the Blue Ridge and Greer communities including including teaching principal at Reid and Apalache Elementary Schools and principal at Victor Elementary School. He also taught at Pleasant Hill and Fairview Elementary schools.

Williams graduated Jordan High School in 1936, graduated Clemson University with a degree in Vocational Agriculture in 1940 and earned a masters in education at Western Carolina University in 1940.

He was a charter member of the Blue Ridge Touchdown Club, long-time member of the Blue Ridge Athletic Booster Club. Williams ended his working career as a peach farmer and adjuster with the Federal Crop Insurance until he was 83-years-old.
