Youth orchestra 2013-2014 schedule has six concerts

Published on Friday, July 19, 2013

The Greenville County Youth Orchestras (GCYO) has set its 2013-2014 season’s performances.

The newly elected board of directors was also announced.

There will be six concerts with the GCYO. The Young Artist Orchestra will provide educational and performing opportunities for students through four other orchestras: Junior Sinfonia, Chamber Strings, Sinfonia, and the Philharmonic.

“Youth orchestras matter in Greenville,” said Jacqui Rose, Board President of GCYO’s Association. “Not only do our students learn to perform their instrument with excellence, but they also learn a collection of life skills that can benefit them and their employers later in life.

“From learning to critique themselves to having confidence under pressure, our students are learning determination to succeed that will stay with them long after their time with the youth orchestra is over.”

Holly Caprell has served as executive director for GCYO since 2007.

The GCYO is the afterschool orchestras program of Greenville County Schools. It meets late afternoons and evenings during the school year. Membership is by auditions, open to all public, private and homeschooled students in Greenville County.
