Northwood players come home to a hero's welcome

Terrence Gist, ESPN's poster player for longest home run during the Little League World Series, was smothered for autographs.
 

More people greeted the Northwest Little League All-Stars returning Thursday to Greer’s GSP airport than presidential Republican candidate Donald Trump.

Trump had come and gone for his speaking engagement in Greenville by the time the Northwood Little League players and their families came down the escalator. A crowd of several hundred family, friends and supporters cheered their heroes home from the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa.

Taylors arrives Thursday at GSP from World Series

The Northwood/Taylors Little League team will be enjoying the sites, games and sliding down the hill the next two days before flying home into GSP.
 

The Taylors Northwood Little League players will arrive home at Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport in Greer at 3:12 p.m. Thursday.

The Southeast Regional champions, the first team from South Carolina to win a game in the Little League World Series, is the first team from the state to play in the LLWS since Clinton in 1950.

A bloop infield single in the top of the fifth inning scored the run that ended Northwood’s dream at the Little League World Series Monday at Williamsport, Pa.

Maddox Burr of Kentucky dropped a two-out floater of a pop fly just over the pitcher’s head and too soft for shortstop Alex Edmondson to make the final out of the inning. Kentucky held on to eliminate the Southeast Regional champs, 4-3.

Northwood staged a miraculous comeback Sunday in the Little League World Series but fell in the bottom of the sixth inning to home-crowd favorite, Pennsylvania, 8-7 in a winner’s bracket game.

Schools supporting players during historic run in World Series

Teachers, administrators and classmates are supporting students at the Little League World Series. The players will miss at least the first two weeks of school.
 
 

While most kids in Greenville County returned to school this week, the Northwood Little League team traveled to Pennsylvania to compete in the Little League World Series.

Their return to the classroom is delayed, the first team from South Carolina since 1950 to play in Williamsport is being supported, both in spirit and academically, by their respective middle schools.

Practices, taking in games fill Northwood's off day

Having a day between games isn’t like taking a day off for the Northwood Little League team.

By beating Cranston, R.I. (Northeast) 6-1 Friday, Northwood (Southeast) is thrust into the winner’s bracket. Northwood’s next game is Sunday at 7 p.m. against Pennsylvania, the hometown favorite. Pennsylvania smashed Missouri 18-0 Friday.

The winner of Monday’s game won’t play again until Wednesday.

Northwood will have practice sessions in fielding and hitting Saturday.

Alex Edmondson tossed a no-hitter, struck out 15 and hit a two-run home run in the first inning in Northwood Little League's opening round win Friday over Cranston, R.I.

Taylors game time changed, rain washes out LLWS on Day 1

The support back home in Taylors continues while the Northwood Little League learned opening ceremonies and all games and practices were rained out Thursday at Williamsport, Pa.
 
 

Steady rain cancelled today’s opening ceremonies at the Little League World Series and forced the Northwood Little League team to change its scheduled game time on Friday.

Northwood’s game as Southeast champions will be played at 5 p.m., one hour later than previously scheduled on Friday. The Taylors team will play New England at historic Lamade Stadium. Northwood will be the visitors.

It is taking the Northwood Little League team as much work to meet all the public demands than just practicing and playing games at Williamsport, Pa.

The Taylors team has been whisked from public appearances to demands by Little League World Series officials to ESPN production staff getting background information for the televised games.

It takes a special coordination for teams to hit all the marks in their daily and evening schedules.

Northwood LL team delayed leaving Atlanta due to FAA glitch

The Northwood Little League baseball team and coaches were delayed leaving Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport this morning because technical problems at a Federal Aviation Administration center in Virginia, according to authorities.

Northwood was to leave at 6:30 a.m. and arrive in Pennsylvania at their hotel by 4:30 p.m. The team is now scheduled to arrive at 9:30 p.m.

The Northwood Little League Southeast Champions have plenty of support in the Greer/Taylors area.
 

The Northwood Little League players are getting a taste of what it’s like to be in a Major League Baseball World Series.

Friday was a day off, of sorts, as the players and coaches spent overnight in Warner Robbins, Ga., after winning the Southeast Regional Championship on Thursday. Players and families had an opportunity to spend a little time together Thursday evening after the game, but afterwards many parents returned home to their jobs.
