Thirteen Latin students won second place in the overall sweepsteaks in the Spring Forum of the South Carolina Junior Classical League competition on March 22. It is only the third year of the existence of the league at Blue Ridge.
Jamarius Q. Earle of Blue Ridge High School signed a football grant-in-aid to attend Newberry College.
Earle, 5-foot-5, 180-pounds, played defensive end and tackle for the 8-3 Tigers last season.
Spartanburg High School will be the site of one of five South Carolina Shrine Bowl combines on Saturday beginning at 9:30 a.m. Five combines will also be held in North Carolina.
The combines are provided for players to demonstrate skills needed for athletic scholarships and possible Shrine Bowl selection. It is open to all rising 12th graders. Athletes are advised to bring videos for the Shrine Bowl coaching staff to evaluate.
Greer girls basketball coach Carlton Greene will coach the North all-stars March 22 in the North-South game at Lexington High School. Southside’s Lamont Wakefield will be an assistant coach.
Ross Mathis of Blue Ridge High School will play for the North team.
