Todd C. Kohlhepp, of Spartanburg County, received seven consecutive life prison terms plus an additional 60 years behind bars Friday after he admitted to killing seven people and sexually assaulting a woman that he held captive in a storage container.
Kohlhepp, 46, pleaded guilty to seven counts of murder, four counts of possession of a weapon during a violent crime, two counts of kidnapping and one count of first-degree criminal sexual conduct.
GPD officers arrested Edwin Anthony Thomas, 51, Friday for third-degree assault and battery for an incident that took place at Greer Middle School sometime one week before spring break, according to a police report and arrest warrant. Thomas was a teacher at Greer Middle School at the time of the alleged incident, according to police.
Police were contacted when allegations surfaced. Thomas was placed on administration leave from Greenville County School and has since resigned his position. The district hired Thomas in August 2015.
Two teens were charged in the shooting death of a Byrnes High School student and Spartanburg County Sheriff Chuck Wright said there was a planned fight at a location to resolve an issue when guns were brought out.
However, a deputy refuted that claim stating the shooting materialized from an earlier disagreement and both parties of the issue agreed to meet settle the argument.
