To some, the Labor Day weekend means the end of summer. To those of us, in the south, it means the beginning of Apple Festival season.
The first festival takes over the streets of Hendersonville, N.C., this weekend. Home to 20 apple farmers, Hendersonville has a charming small downtown atmosphere. It’s even better with the streets lined with craft and food vendors and activities for children.
The Arvie Jr. Band, featuring Arvie Bennett, will play in downtown Greer Friday and Saturday night.
Friday the band will play at The Strip Club 104 at 104 E. Poinsett Street from 6-9 p.m.
Corree-Wood Schurman a cook for the team that won the Wing Fling at the weekend’s Sooie’t Relief BBQ competition will appear on TV tonight on the BBQ Pitmasters Grand Championship.
Schurman and teammate Lynnae Beth Oxley will appear on Destination America at 9 a.m. on the final episode of BBQ Pitmasters. The show has Pellet Envy and Butcher BBQ teams making up the semifinals.
The team that traveled the greatest distance won the biggest prize at the Sooie’t Relief BBQ competition Saturday. Lotta Bull BBQ, from Marietta, Okla., was crowned the Grand Champion.
These are the road closings in downtown Greer from Friday at 6 a.m. until Saturday, midnight, during the Sooie’t Relief BBQ festival.
Road closures will remain in place throughout the entire event.
Famed Hollywood writer Elmore Leonard died on Tuesday after suffering a stroke on July 29. He was 87.
Best known for “Get Shorty,” “Out of Sight” and most-recently the FX series “Justified,” Leonard was surrounded by his family at the time of his death, his researcher, Gregg Sutter, told news reports.
