The Foothills Philharmonic Orchestra would like to thank the people of the city of Greer and surrounding communities for their wonderful support of our Christmas Concert. The concert was also part of the Marine Corps’s Toys for Tots Campaign. The community’s support made this a great success also. The free concert was attended by nearly 700 people, and six boxes of toys were collected.
NBC Sports Group has reached an agreement for exclusive multiplatform U.S. media rights to the FEI World Equestrian Games Tryon 2018. The Games return to the United States for the second time in eight years and will be held at the Tryon International Equestrian Center in Mill Spring, NC. Sept. 11-23.
The FEI World Equestrian Games, one of the biggest events on the global sporting calendar, is held every four years in the middle of the Olympic cycle, combining eight World Championships at one event. The eight equestrian disciplines — Jumping, Dressage, Para-Equestrian Dressage, Eventing, Driving, Endurance, Vaulting and Reining — will all be contested.
The Riverside High School Speech and Debate Booster Club’s annual Radio Play will be held Dec.12 at 6:30 p.m. The event is one its major fund raising efforts for the year. All the money to attend tournaments is raised by team members and the booster club.
The Greer Christmas Parade was held in picture perfect weather with almost 100 entries entertaining thousands of viewers lining the 1.1-mile route Sunday afternoon.
There was plenty of candy handed out to children and there no reports of silly string sprayed on parade visitors or aimed from vehicles. An ordinance was passed several years ago when City Council received one complaint.
The Greer Christmas Parade is 2:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon at the Clock Restaurant on Poinsett Street.
The Blue Ridge and Greer high school bands, Gee and Santa Claus will be among favorite attractions. Santa Claus will be end the parade.
The children were in their Christmas finery Saturday during Breakfast with Santa at the Cannon Centre.
Call the “hardest ticket to get” in Greer, it was a guaranteed sellout 45 minutes before tickets went on sale last month.
The Christmas holiday season is celebrated in Greer with an evening of festivities, the tree lighting and arrival of Santa Claus at Greer City Park.
Weather made to order, clear skies and mild temperatures (60-55 degrees), will greet thousands of visitors to the 5-7:30 p.m. ceremonies.
