The earthquake was initially registered at a magnitude 4.4, but was later revised downward to a magnitude 4.1 by the USGS.
People in Greer reported feeling the shake in their homes while others said they heard what appeared to be a helicopter. The earthquake was felt throughout the entire upstate, western North Carolina and northeast Georgia, according to news reports.
No injuries or damage was reported in the greater Greer area. A television station in Georgia (WAGT) reported the floor of the Edgefield County Hospital was cracked after the quake and personnel were standing by to possibly evacuate the building.
