Mark Khoury is owner of Abbott's Frozen Custard at 119 E. Poinsett Street.
Khoury, owner of downtown Greer’s newest eatery at 119 E. Poinsett Street, told of his growing up in Rochester, N.Y., with Abbott’s as much a part of his life as the Clock restaurant is to Greer residents past and present.
In fact, Jimmy Chulkus, owner of the building Khoury acquired to place the first Abbott’s in South Carolina, dropped in on the get together.
“This is the first time I have ever had frozen custard,” Chulkas said. “This is great and will be good for Greer.”
“This is a big day for us,” Khoury said. “I grew up on Abbott’s. My mom would treat us at Abbott’s when we were young. And every time I go home I eat at Abbott’s about nine times every week.”
Abbott’s opens Friday with daily hours 11 a.m. – 10 p.m.
Jason Cole is the general manager with his wife, Lauren, also working at the business. “We are so excited to be here in Greer,” Cole said. “It’s such as sweet little community and we are glad to be part of it.”
