Beef brisket is on the menu for the Sooie't Relief BBQ Benefit Friday and Saturday.
Downtown Greer will be heavily scented with savory barbecue flavors this weekend.
The Wing Fling competition featuring grilled and smoked wings will be tasted and judged Friday night. The Kansas City Barbecue Society-sanctioned cook-off Saturday features chicken, pork and beef.
The event both days are free. Tickets to purchase food – barbecue, brisket and ribs and others – beverages and kids rides are $1 each.
The weather forecast is sunny and hot, with temperatures in the mid-90s, and a small chance for a late afternoon/evening thunderstorm.
There is plenty of parking in downtown Greer, despite the central business districts roads being closed. Visit an interactive parking map here or call the Greer parking hotline at 864-416-0129.
The $15 tickets are for 15 individual event tickets or admission to either the Wing Fling Friday or BBQ Tasters Choice Saturday from noon – 4 p.m. Proceeds benefit Greer Relief and Resources Agency.
Friday’s events are 6-10 p.m. with the Wing Fling and entertainment. Saturday’s festival is 10 a.m. – 10 p.m. filled with entertainment throughout the day and the judging of the barbecue contest.
About 40 cookers from as far away as Oklahoma will be located in the lot behind the Depot. The public is invited to walk and visit with the cookers and their families and friends.
Roads have already been blocked off until midnight Saturday.
