The Southern Barbecue Network (SBN) has scheduled its first certified BBQ judges training session in the Greenville-Spartanburg are on Saturday, Dec. 3 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the Spartanburg Shrine Club. Training sessions educate members in subjective ways to judge barbecue in meat categories of ribs, pork and chicken. 

Membership in the SBN is $35 and the cost of the raining session is $25. Visit sbbqn.com for more information. The Shrine Club is at 1450 Fernwood Glendale Road in Spartanburg. 

The SBN is not to be confused with the Kansas City Barbecue Society (KCBS), which is the international sanctioning body of the Sooie’t Barbecue festival in August in Greer. Judges and cookers of both organizations participate in each other’s events. Judges in the KCBS events must be sanctioned through its training.
