Fifth-graders at Bob Jones Academy, above, and four-graders, below, meet the new mascot during a surprise classroom visit the first day of school.
A new mascot was unveiled during surprise visits to the high school student body assembly and the classrooms in the middle and elementary divisions. The lion was chosen because it embodies the three core principles of the academy, dedication to students and Christ; focus on academic excellence, the fine arts, athletics and ministry opportunities; and proven record of academics, faculty, student achievements and alumni effectiveness.
The lion is dedicated to its pride and shows this through its strength and protection, tenacity and leadership. The lioness, as the main hunter for the pride, maintains a singular focus as she brings down her quarry with speed, strength and agility.
The lion is a proven leader in the animal kingdom as it stands confident among animals and is respected and feared. The BJA Lion will be named during a school-wide contest that seeks the most creative entries.
