Brother of victim charged in double fatal shootout

Michael Antoninius Weatherspoon has been arrested and charged with murder, attempted armed robbery and conspiracy in the double shooting deaths Monday at 203 Pelham Street.

The shootout resulted in the deaths of Douglas J. Burgess, 62, and Teresa Weatherspoon, 34.

The Greer Police Department Criminal Investigators arrested Weatherspoon late Wednesday. The investigation revealed that Michael transported Timaca (his sister) to the residence and provided her with the weapon she used to commit the crime, Greer police reported.

Greer police said Timaca Weatherspoon knocked on the door of Burgess’ residence asking for money. She reportedly pulled a gun when Burgess refused. Burgess also pulled his gun and they exchanged gunfire.  Timaca Weatherspoon was shot once in the leg and died in surgery of a severe hemorrhage after being airlifted to Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Police report only two shots were fired.

The investigation is still ongoing.
