Kay Butler, 91, died Monday. She was remembered for volunteering 45 years and 19,500 hours with Bon Secours.
Butler volunteered 45 years, 19,500 hours with Bon Secours providing help in various roles throughout the hospital system. She was also “1984 Volunteer of the Year” and received numerous commendations. She crossed over many departments including front desk, chart room for outpatient surgery and education.
The hospital reported Butler volunteered up until the day she was admitted into the hospital. Butler was surrounded by her family when she died.
“Kay was always willing to help at any time or any place. She loved to stay busy and poured her heart and soul into what she did,” said Amy Wasniewski, Volunteer Coordinator.
“She loved to tell stories about growing up in Greenville and she smiled continuously when talking about her late husband. Kay is a perfect example of the Mission of Bon Secours St. Francis Health System and I am blessed that I had the opportunity to get to know her throughout the years. Thank you Kay for all you do.”
During the last fiscal year, Bon Secours St. Francis had 21,352 volunteer hours with a cost savings of $456,078. Volunteer placement areas include information desk, spiritual care, Eucharistic ministers, patient relations, patient pals, HealThy Self, Upstate Surgery (both places), Infusion Center Massage Therapists, etc with a total of 160 hospital volunteers.
