Byrnes, No. 5 ranked in Class AAAAA, now leads the series 28-26-1 and hasn’t lost in the series since 2000.
Greer had more offensive yardage than Byrnes, 262-225, but Byrnes’ quick strike scoring plays did in the Yellow Jackets.
Byrnes did not have a turnover one week after committing six in a loss at Myrtle Beach.
Rahjai Harris scored on a 60-yard run, Quez Mayes on a 4-yard run, and Brock Carroll scored on a 1-yard keeper for the Rebels rushing touchdowns.
Carroll tossed a 22-yard scoring pass to Jake Childers and Jalen Miller recovered a fumble by teammate Dre Williams and finished off the drive on an 8-yard scoring run.
Byrnes kicker Luis Hernandez kicked a 41-yard field goal and made all six points after touchdowns.
Greer’s score was courtesy of a Trey Houston pass to Nate Jefferson that covered 20 yards. Andres Toro added the extra point.
Houston was intercepted twice, one by Noa Means resulted in a 6-yard return for a touchdown.
Byrnes’ White led all rushers with 133 yards and Carroll completed 8 passes for 97 yards.
Byrnes is 1-1 and plays at Mallard Creek in Charlotte next week. Greer returns to Dooley Field to host Clinton, a 34-29 winner over n its opener over rival Laurens tonight.
Byrnes held a memorial ceremony to honor Markel Nesbitt who died last summer in a drowning accident.
