Moore fondly recalls Susan Hawkins as her mentor. “I worked with her and she gave everything to her job. She was an inspiration because she took care of everyone . . . orderlies and people. She got me involved with Big Thursday.”

The Cheryl M. Moore Greer Community Garden was named two weeks ago to honor's Moore's commitment to the project.
Moore remained at Allen Bennett until Greer Memorial opened in 2008. While Mansure was transitioning the move and closing Allen Bennett, Moore said she was preparing to promote the move to the more contemporary hospital.
“We all had to get use to Greer Memorial in general,” Moore said. “It was a new hospital in a new location, a larger facility and it was much more modern. We were working hard at branding the hospital in the community.”
Moore proved to be the point person to bridge the community to the new healthcare facility.
“Once we got here we wanted to be established in the community,” Mansure said. “I saw the passion in (Moore) and quickly turned to her to get us there.”
Moore has been the go-to person for Mansure. “Anything we did in the community we organized through Cheryl. Since we’ve been involved with the Chamber’s First Friday Luncheon my desire was to have our physicians advertise themselves. Cheryl set all that up.”
Greer Memorial issued 2,000 flu shots this year in the community through churches and organizations. Moore organized those events.
When Mansure suggested Greer Memorial use some vacant land as a community garden, it was Moore who organized and moved that forward. “I don’t like being outside in a garden,” Moore said as she laughed. “But I had a plot the first year and had one last year but couldn’t get out on weekends because it always rained.”
Mansure, two weeks ago, had a sign posted at the Wood Street property that reads, “Cheryl M. Moore Community Garden.”
Moore's contributions earned her being named the Professional Woman in Business by the Greer Chamber. Mark Owens, vice president of the Chamber has worked with Moore frequently at events and as the member of the Greenville Memorial Advisory Committee.
“Cheryl is a key volunteer for our annual celebration and anytime we needed something she made it happen,” Owens said. “When we are breaking down events, sometimes it can get hectic. Cheryl is a calming person. She is incredibly reliable.”
Moore said she will continue to volunteer as a means of her giving back to the community. “I’ve got to find my niche, there’s a lot of good things going on in Greer.”
