Danzel Collins needs to prioritize his chores. Maybe rank them according to their monetary value.
At 4:30 today a TD Bank welcoming group of management and advertising reps, at the Greer branch on Wade Hampton Blvd., was awaiting Collins’ scheduled arrival to pick up a $1,000 check he won in a drawing. Collins confirmed the time Wednesday. Today at 4 he conducted business at the bank’s drive-thru.
By 4:30 he forgot what he was supposed to do.
“I was cleaning out my car and knew I was supposed to being doing something,” Collins said. “But I forgot what it was until I got the call (at 4:45) from the bank they were expecting me.”
Collins, who works part-time at the Sonic in his hometown of Duncan, said he plans on holding onto the money, for now. “I told my mother and my girlfriend and a couple of friends,” Collins said. “I don’t have plans for it now but my girlfriend asked me to buy her some shoes.”
Collins is a former Byrnes standout who played on the 2009 Byrnes state championship team with Marcus Lattimore. He injured his ACL on one of the final plays of the game. “I went for a block and it was a late hit,” Collins said of the injury. He said he aggravated the injury during a running drill at Byrnes during the off-season.
“My plans are to go to a community college and then transfer to (South) Carolina,” Collins said.
