On March 23, the third grade classes from Chandler Creek Elementary took a field trip to Columbia.

First, we took off from the K5 car line at Chandler Creek Elementary to Columbia. Next, we visited the South Carolina State House, and we completed a scavenger hunt around the grounds of the State House.

We also took a tour inside the State House. The tour guide showed us the inside of the place where the Senate meets and the picture of John C. Calhoun above the place where the Lt. Governor sits when the Senate is in session. He also described all of the paintings in the State House.

While we were there, the tour guide showed us the House of Representatives on TV and described the meetings and how sometimes the Speaker of the House has to bang the gavel to get the attention of the Representatives.

Then, we had a delicious lunch provided by Chick-fil-A outside Riverbanks Zoo. We went inside the zoo to see all the animals.

The first thing I saw was the hissing cockroaches. They were AWESOME, but of course I didn’t want to pet one. We fed the giraffes, and we also saw the lions, tigers, bears, monkeys, and much, much more. We saw a gorilla feeding presentation, and we walked in a place with kangaroos.

Finally, we visited the South Carolina Museum. We saw a replica of a giant white shark, different types of rocks, astronaut gear, a replica of the H.L. Hunley, and much more.

We also got to see an old schoolhouse and dig for dinosaur bones. We played in a large tire, explored different time periods of South Carolina and even looked through a telescope to look at the sun.

In conclusion, I think we had a very exciting field trip, and I hope that you enjoy reading about it.
