The Commission on Cancer (Coc) of the American College of Surgeons has granted its Outstanding Achievement Award to Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System's Gibbs Cancer Center & Research Institute for its dedication to providing excellent quality care to cancer patients. The Gibbs Center in Greer opened last month.
Gibbs Cancer Center is one of 79 U.S. health care facilities with accredited cancer programs to receive this national honor for surveys performed last year. Gibbs Cancer Center has received this distinction three times.
The award recognizes cancer programs that demonstrate a commendation level of compliance and achievement within six areas of cancer-program activity: cancer committee leadership, cancer data management, clinical management, research, community outreach and quality improvement.
“We are very honored to have received this prestigious award from the Commission on Cancer for a third time because it validates our ongoing commitment to medical excellence, combined with positive clinical outcomes and our leading patient education and support programs,” said Dr. Robert Cochran, a surgeon and Chairman of Gibbs' Cancer Care Committee. "The CoC Outstanding Achievement Award reflects the dedication and commitment of our team of caring professionals."
