Mayor Rick Danner has been selected to join the Advisory Board of Smart Growth America’s new Local Leaders Council.
"Proactive smart growth planning has enabled Greer to embrace an orderly approach to dealing with 10 percent growth a year. Increasingly we are taking a more regional approach to infrastructure decisions, which will give taxpayers a better return on investment,” Danner said. “I am excited to join Smart Growth America’s Local Leaders Council not only to access ideas from other communities but also to share some of the successful approaches that have worked here in the City of Greer.”
Danner will work with other municipal leaders to guide the growth and develop of the program of this new nationwide network. The advisory board is comprised of municipal leaders representing big cities, rural towns, and suburban communities, each with their own set of challenges and opportunities.
The board's first meeting, Oct. 1, was to discuss shared goals and to deliberate on the services the Council would provide its members. Members will receive technical assistance in policy development, reviews of best practices across a broad range of issues, and access to one another to share ideas and lessons in smart growth implementation.
“Mayor Rick Danner is a leader with a passion for creating great communities and he understands the economic development issues very well. Under his leadership, Greer continues to invest strategically in its downtown and is making more coordinated decisions on infrastructure. Mayor Danner’s leadership on the Advisory Board will benefit many other communities striving to become stable and grow economically,” said William Fulton, Smart Growth America’s Vice President for Policy & Implementation and former Mayor of Ventura, Calif.
