Jimmy R. Haney, 45, pleaded guilty to first-degree criminal sexual conduct and dissemination of obscene material to a minor. The defendant will serve 80 percent of Circuit Judge Mark Hayes’ prison sentence before he is eligible for release. He will also have his name added to the Sex Offender Registry.
On Nov. 9, 2011, a Woodruff Elementary guidance counselor reported the allegation to the Sheriff’s Office. The victim described Haney’s actions in detail. The victim disclosed again during a forensic examination at the Children’s Advocacy Center. The child also told investigators Haney used his cell phone to show her a video of a man and a woman having sex.
During a law enforcement interview, Haney admitted to inappropriately touching the child but he claimed to have no specific memory of the incidents since he was under the influence of alcohol.
Deputies also searched Haney’s telephone and found evidence of him showing the video to the child.
The victim attended the guilty plea.
“The victim’s bravery is a good example to other children who have gone through something like this or are going through it,” Assistant Solicitor Susan Reese said.
