Family Dollar is closing two underperforming Greer area stores as part of its restructuring plan.
The stores at 1301 Wade Hampton Blvd. in Greer and at 311 Greenville Highway in Lyman will be closed by Aug. 1, said Family Dollar spokeswoman Bryn Winburn.
The 8-10 employees impacted at the closed stores will be reassigned if possible, Winburn said.
“Family Dollar is taking decisive action to position the company to be more successful in an adverse operating environment,” Winburn said. A comprehensive review identified 370 of 8,246 stores, “that do not meet our profitability requirements.”
The company is closing 11 of its 230 stores it operates in South Carolina.
The discount retailer reportedly lowered prices on 1,000 items in its attempt to lure shoppers back.
