Classes began Dec. 3. Students spent three weeks in the classroom followed by three weeks with a local company. The curriculum included forklift training, material handling, and process operations. Each graduate received a certificate for successful completion of Chemical Operator Training and Forklift Certification.
The idea for the training was conceived by employers when they were unable to find qualified entry-level employees. The 120-hour program is designed to allow the graduate to step into an unskilled role at a chemical facility and to grow skills from there.
On- the- job training allows students to apply what they have learned in the classroom while it also gives employers the chance to assess a potential employee’s skills.
