Bruce Taylor, 91, is too busy to politick for the “American Volunteer Contest for Meals on Wheels”.

But Greer Community Ministries isn’t shy and is campaigning on Taylor’s behalf to recognize him nationally in a Facebook contest (vote here), with 37 entries, that ends voting at midnight Wednesday.

Voting for Taylor is also voting for GCM. The contest winner earns its MOW organization $1,000 and a fully produced video to promote the work it’s doing in the community.

Here’s who Greer and its many friends will be voting for:

Taylor grew up during the era of the Great Depression, volunteered for the Army days after graduating high school in 1942, served in Germany, worked 30 years at Victor Mill and has been involved with Greer Community Ministries the past 10 years making sure people get a warm meal a day, friendly companionship and a hug when needed.

“I ham it up pretty good,” Taylor said.

Taylor said his route has an international flavor. “I have Polish, German and Hispanics on the route. Some are disabled, like a diabetic with one leg. It’s important when I deliver them their meal that I greet them with a smile, too.”

Taylor’s motto: “I tell people I still do what I want to do, but I don’t want to do what I used to have to do.”
