Lonnie "Gee" McGee proudly displays a plaque he received from Parks and Recreation Thursday night during the  awards presentation after the 12-under championship game.

Lonnie McGee, Greer’s iconic favorite son known as “Gee”, was presented a plaque commemorating his participation with the Greer Parks and Recreation Department at Thursday night’s championship football games at Greer City Stadium.

Gee was part of the officiating crew, dressed in full attire, in the three games featuring the championship contests in the 10-under and 12-under divisions.

He was presented the Coaches honor preceding the award ceremony for the 12-under champions, the Yellow Jackets.

“The plaque we presented to him was for his continued support, time, and effort in our football program. We give all our coaches/volunteers a coach’s plaque every season and Gee is included in that. He is a part of us and our staff,” said Justin Miller, Athletics Coordinator for P&R.

Miller said Gee mentioned earlier in the season that he did not have a troph or plaque.

Gee was overwhelmed when he was told the plaque was for him. He, gave a big yell of excitement, ran to the sidelines and showed the award to fans in the stands.

The plaque reads:

In appreciation of your time and effort with the Upstate Jackets Football Program, the City of Greer Parks and Recreation Department presents to you our Fall 2012 Coaches Award.
