Ellen Roberson, Meals on Wheels Director, and Cindy Simpler, Executive Director for Greer Community Ministries, will have a renovated kitchen with updated appliances to prepare meals for its programs.
Greenville Women Giving announced $500,255 in grants to eight area organizations Wednesday. The grants range from $40,000 to $100,000.
GCM’s kitchen has not been updated since its installation in 1966. The facility prepares more than 83,000 meals annually in the ministries' Meals on Wheels and Senior Dining programs the non-profit claims.
The tilt kettle, used for soups and stews that tilt forward for easy pouring, dishwasher and smaller appliances need to he replaced. GCM reported the upgrades will increase operational efficiency and energy savings.

Greenville Women Caring presented grants to GCM, Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Upstate, Catholic Charities, Diocese of Charleston, Faces and Voices of Recovery, Meals on Wheels, Metropolitan Arts Council, Meyer Center for Special Children and The Family Effect.
There are 425 members who commit to donate $1,100 a year for three years with Greenville Women Caring pooling the funds to give larger donations.
