The School District of Greenville County and the City of Greer have renewed a lease agreement for the softball/baseball and football fields at Riverside Middle School.
The 5-year renewal, $1 a year, is effective Sept. 1 through August 2021. The city will play for all utilities associated with the fields while using the facilities.
The City of Greer will use the playing fields for its recreational purposes after school hours unless Riverside Middle has activities planned.
“It’s been a beneficial partnership for both of us,” said Ann Cunningham, Director of Parks and Recreation.
Notable actions:
• Lisa Lynn was appointed as the District 5 representative to the Board of Zoning Appeals to replace T.D. Campbell, who has resigned. Approved 6-0.
• Mayor Rick Danner was absent from Tuesday’s meeting. Mayor Pro Tem Wryley Bettis conducted the meeting.

Second and final reading for:
• Ordinance to change zoning classification of a portion of property owned by Joy and Don Foster located at 721 A South Main Street from RM-1 (Residential multi-family district) to C-2 (Commercial District). Approved 6-0.
• Ordinance to change zoning classification of a portion of property owned by Joy and Don Foster located on Palmer Street from RM-1 (Residential multi-family district) to C-2 (Commercial District). Approved 6-0.
New business
• First reading of property owned by Teresa Smith at 327 Hammett Bridge Road for annexation and zoning and establish Design Review District (DRD) zoning classification. The 2.71 acres will be combined with the 27 acres with the purpose to construct 87 single family detached dwellings. Planning Commission will conduct a public hearing Aug. 15 for the zoning. Approved 6-0.
• First reading of property owned by BCB and PRB 2, LLC to provide for annexation and establish a zoning classification of DRD at 307 Hammett Bridge Road. (annexation and zoning). The 5.6 acres will be for construction of 32 townhomes, units of 4-6 each that will be adjacent to the Bojangles’ at Hammett Bridge Road and Buncombe Road. Units will be 1,500-2,800 square feet with off-street parking. Prices reported between high $100,000 to low $200,000. Planning Commission will conduct a public hearing Aug. 15 for the zoning. Approved 6-0.
• First reading for annexation and rezoning of property at 1310-1312 W. Wade Hampton Blvd. Property owned by Halpern Partners, LLC asking for zoning classification of C-3 (highway commercial) for retail development. The 1.256 aces have a gun store and used car lot on the property. Planning Commission will conduct a public hearing Aug. 15 for the zoning. Approved 6-0.
Resolution
• Authorizing the inclusion of property in a multi-county (Greenville-Spartanburg) industrial park for Minghua USA, Inc., to be located within the city limits of Greer. Approved 6-0.
