The battle for this ball was shared by a Greer and Bryson player.
Greer gave Bryson its first loss in two year in the championship game, 46-40. Bryson beat Greer last year in the championship game.
“I was very blessed to come into a situation where there is so much passion for basketball,” coach Thomas Wilkes said. ‘I could not have asked for a better group of guys to coach.”
Magic Moody, who is looked upon as a future varsity talent, scored a game-high 21 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Kaylen Freeman’s 15 points and 12 rebounds gave Greer a powerful 1-2 scoring and defensive punch that proved too much for Bryson.
Moody averaged 21.7 points during the playoffs, 4.9 points more than his season average of 16.8.
Greer’s offense was devastating this season. The Yellow Jackets outscored opponents 892-532 or 52.7-31.2 points per game.
“Kyle Moore and Magic Moody were our captains this year and they set a great example of hard work and discipline. Those two helped lay a great foundation for the teams that will come after them,” Wilkes said.
Wilkes said, “Ryan Pearson, Sam Gravley, Kaylen Freeman, Tyric Fleming, Cameron Woodruff, Nate Jefferson and Bryce Durrah are going to be a fun group to watch next year at Greer High School. Tyrek Johnson, Collin Fowler and Trey Houston gained a lot of experience this year and our team next year will benefit greatly from it.”
