The Greer Centennial Lions Club wrapped up its largest fundraiser to date, raising more than $33,000 for the Lions Club mission and two beneficiaries, Chandler Creek Elementary and Greer Middle School.

“We are thrilled the community pulled together to help us with this meaningful event. These donations will help our most vulnerable youth for years to come,” said Jack Lucas, vice president and event organizer.

The plunge event enlisted community leaders to engage with their network and ask for donations. Plungers were asked to raise a thousand dollars or “take the plunge”.

Celebrity plungers included:

• Cassandra Davis, Chandler Creek Elementary School Principal

• Stephanie Lackey, Greer Middle School Principal

• Chief Matt Hamby, Greer Police Department

• Chief Dorian Flowers, Greer Fire Department

• Mark Hopper, City of Greer Councilman

• Karuiam Booker, City of Greer Councilman

• Alan Jones, Michelin

• Ben Waldrop, Century Printing and Packaging

• Jack Lucas, Countybank

• Chuck Langston, Langston Black Real Estate

• Rick Stroud, Great Homes of the Upstate

• Keli Alber, FYZICAL Therapy and Balance Centers

• Sabina Kapasi, His Therapy

• Jenn Green, CrossFit Greer

The Greer Centennial Lions Club donated $16,000 between Chandler Creek Elementary and Greer Middle School on Oct. 11. Chandler Creek Elementary plans to use the funds for mental health counseling and therapy, addressing the hunger needs of students and for vouchers that allow children without medical insurance to receive glasses.

“It’s just a powerful thing you are doing for us. We know children can’t learn if they are not safe, healthy and if their needs aren’t met and you are giving us the opportunity to do that for our children,” said Cassandra Davis, Chandler Creek Elementary School Principal.

Greer Middle School plans to use the funds for a Caring Closet, reading books, Angel Tree, sensory garden, student engagement, school supplies and glasses for students.

“We appreciate all your support of Greer Middle School. I’’e been here 10 years and the Greer community is near and dear to my heart. We are thankful for you allowing us to be involved in the plunge,” said Stephanie Lackey, Greer Middle School Principal.

The plunge will take place during the Greer Farmers Market on Tuesday, Oct., 18 at 5:30 p.m. at Greer City Park. Additional funds will be used to support the Lions Club five service areas – vision, hunger, childhood cancer, diabetes and the environment.
