Greer Community Ministries (GCM) has launched the 2018 Fab 5 campaign to help stock the food pantry shelves with basic nonperishable food items that frequently run low at the nonprofit organization.
The year’s Fab 5 items are: canned items including meat, fruit, pasta (ravioli, spaghetti rings), and soup, as well as 18 oz. jars of peanut butter. GCM provides emergency food orders every four months to people in need in the Greater Greer area.
“Generally after the holidays donations start to slow down,” said Maureen Bryan, food and clothing services coordinator. “GCM donors are so faithful and generous and when we provide a list of items, referred to as our FAB 5, which will always be needed in our food assistance program, we are able to keep our pantry better stocked.”
In 2017, GCM provided close to 2,000 emergency food orders feeding over 4,000 people. As the community of Greer grows the needs within the community also grows.
A food order consists of five bags of nonperishable food and is available once every four months. The order should feed a family of three or four people for three to five days. Larger families receive two or three food orders based on the number of people living in the household.
Donations are accepted from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday-Friday at the ministry, 738 S. Line St. Ext., Greer. Call 877-1937 or visit gcminc.org for more information.
