Greer ended its non-region schedule Thursday night by defeating Union County, 42-7, at Dooley Field.
The game was played one night earlier because of the threat of Hurricane Florence bringing hefty winds and heavy rains.
Greer finished its non-region schedule with a 4-1 record. The Yellow Jackets have an open date Sept. 21 and begins region play at Greenville on Sept .28.
Trey Houston’s 17 yard pass to Cameron Martin , and Edwin Sales’ first of seven points after touchdown kicks gave Greer a 7-0 lead with only 1:44 off the clock.
TT Kershaw scored on a 10-yard run and Phillip Guinn’s PAT were Union County’s only points and tied the game 7-7.
It was all Greer the rest of the way with Houston scoring on a 26-yard run and Sales’ PAT for a 14-7 lead in the first quarter.
Matthew Huff quarterbacked Greer beginning in the second quarter. Huff passed to Braxton Collins for a 31-yard score in the second quarter and 14 yard TD in the fourth quarter.
Dre Williams punched in a TD with a three-yard run in the second quarter to help Greer build a 35-halftime lead.
Greer’s defense held Union County to 65 yards rushing on 35 attempts (1.8 yard average). Greer’s offense averaged 6 yards per play.
