Matthew Huff threw three touchdown passes and Greer kind of skipped over Berea in a 51-0 victory Friday night in a Class 4A Region II high school football game at Dooley Field.
It was Greer’s first shutout this season for the Yellow Jackets and sets up a region championship game next Friday night at Eastside. Both teams are 7-1 overall and 3-0 in the region. The Yellow Jackets have won seven consecutive games.
It was nothing fancy, just an old-fashioned beat down by Greer. The Yellow Jackets scored 28 points in the first quarter Matthew Huff passed to Jelee Skinner for a 32-yard score with only 88 seconds gone in the game. Dre Williams returned a punt 63 yards for a score, Cameron Hammonds ran back an interception 30 yards and Huff’s scoring pass to Cameron Martin highlighted a 28 point first quarter.
Two more TD passes by Huff in the second quarter – 55 yards to Martin and 2 yards to Austin Green – wrapped around a safety gave Greer 44-0 first half lead.
Vonte Martin’s 29-yard scoring run completed Greer’s TD binge.
Greer’s defense held Berea to 28 yards rushing on 30 attempts and one completion for no gain on five attempts.
