Spartanburg scored all its points in the first half and held off Greer in the second to defeat the Yellow Jackets, 20-12.
Greer is 0-2 and Spartanburg 1-1. Greer plays at winless (0-1) Westside next Friday.
Israel Rhodes scored on a 20-yard run in the third quarter and Darius Griffin scored on a 6-yard run in the fourth quarter for the Yellow Jackets. Both extra points kicks failed.
Spartanburg only gained 40 more yards than Greer, 238-198, while Greer had an edge in time of possession.
Rhodes was the game’s leading rusher with 112 yards on 15 carries for a 7.5-yard per carry average.
Greer quarterback Raheim Jeter completed 12 of 28 pass attempts for 54 yards. He was intercepted twice.
There were 18 punts in the game – nine by each team with Greer’s Gomez averaging 35 yards per kick, two downed inside the 20 and one touchback. Spartanburg’s Bishop netted 33.8 yards. per punt with four downed inside the 20.
