Greer Sting is second in Great Smokey Shootout

6th grade Greer Middle Boys team finish season 20-6

The Sting won three championships, two third place finishes and this weekend’s runnerup. The Greer Sting 6th grade boys team finished second this weekend in the Great Smokey Shootout in Hickory, N.C. There were 11 teams in the division.

The Sting defeated teams from Spartanburg and Morganton, Asheville and Hickory, N.C. The Sting fell in the championship game, 55-46, to the Anderson Warriors.

Coach Robbie Gravley was pleased with the Sting’s performance, as the tournament is considered the biggest prize on the Youth Basketball of America circuit, Gravely said.

"Just about every team in Hickory was an all-star team, made from kids from multiple schools. Our team is 100 percent kids from Greer Middle School. Coach (Matt) Ramsdell and Coach (Jeff) Neely have a lot to look forward to,” Gravley said.

The Sting finished the season with a 20-6 record in six tournaments. The Sting won three championships, two third place finishes and this weekend’s runnerup.

These rising 7th graders will be elibible to play middle school sports next season.
