Residents are invited to hear and comment on the presentation on Wednesday, June 5, 4-7 p.m. at Greer City Hall at 301 E. Poinsett Street.
Greer and Greenville is one of six corridor alternatives being studied.
The project, that extends north to Washington, D.C., called the Southeast High Speed Rail network, is being steered by the Federal Railroad Administration’s regional high-speed rail initiative.
Interim roadway improvements in the major metropolitan areas of Atlanta and Charlotte, and Greenville, and Spartanburg, likely will not satisfy long-term capacity and mobility needs for the corridor. Alternative transportation choices such as high-speed rail are needed to combat increased traffic congestion, crash rates and air pollution from vehicles’ greenhouse gas emissions, according to the website.
Similar meetings are scheduled June 4 in Suwanee, Ga., and June 6 in Charlotte.
