The Greer Yellow Jackets punctuated the halfway point of their regular season schedule by walloping the Woodruff Wolverines, 56-0, Friday night at Dooley Field. Greer is 4-1.
The eight touchdowns performance by Greer was distributed with six rushing and two passing, all in the first three quarters.
Greer bullied Woodruff with 573 total yards – 391 yards rushing and 182 yards passing. Woodruff is 2-3 and doesn’t play again until Sept. 29 versus Newberry.
Quarterback Trey Houston started the scoring parade 43 seconds into Greer’s first possession with a 71-yard run. Edwin Sales made the first of his eight extra points kicks.
Houston threw scoring passes to Quay White, 7 yards, and Matthew Huff, 10 yards. Dre Williams scored three times on runs of 24 yards, 2 and 65 yards. Chris Quinn scooted 60 yards for his score and Matthew Huff ran 29 yards for a TD.
Williams needed only six carries for his 156 yards rushing,
Greer’s defense recorded its second shutout in five games. Along the way Greer has accumulated 188 points while giving up 79 points.
The Yellow Jackets are off next week and begin Region II-AAAA play Sept. 29 at Travelers Rest.
