Matthew Moore signed to play basketball with North Greenville University. Parents Greg and Tracey Moore flank Matthew. Greer High School coach Jeff Neely stands between Moore's brothers Kyle, right, and Nathan, left.
Moore, who will study business, said he visited NGU and liked the atmosphere at the school and the basketball players and coaches. “I saw them play a couple of times during the season and when I hung out with the players I felt like I belonged there,” Moore said. It also gives Moore to play close to his home.
The 6-foot-2, 165-pound Moore said one of his best friends, Mason Sanders of Boiling Springs, may have helped with the decision to attend NGU. “He goes there and was in my ear a little bit,” Moore said.
Moore said he’s confident he could fit in as a shooting guard or running the offense. “I will play where the coaches think I can help them the most.”
Moore will play for Chad Lister, who coached NGU to a 14-14 overall record and 7-9 in the Conference Carolinas. NGU has seven players returning, six rising juniors and a senior.
Moore’s last day of school is Wednesday and Greer’s graduation is next week. He has his summer planned. “I will be in the weight room and gym and adding some size.”
There were several other schools Moore was considering – USC Upstate, Tusculum, Lander and Newberry. Moore said, “I already know I want to start a training business when I get out of school.”
