GreerToday.com was awarded second place for best website in its division in the South Carolina Press Association 2012 contest. It was the only news site honored in the division.

The award was announced Saturday at the annual SCPA convention held at Greenville’s Poinsett Westin.

It was the Greer all-purpose news medium’s first entry in the SCPA contest. There were over 4,000 entries in divisions ranging from major dailies to associate and individual membership. Out-of-state professionals and journalists judged the contest.

GreerToday.com is the only daily serving the greater Greer market 24/7/365. And it is the only medium of its kind that does not have a paywall.

“Congratulations go to the Greer community and its extended families. Greer has embraced GreerToday.com and we are honored to be the vehicle to ride this storied and progressive community into the future,” said Jim Fair, founder of the news site.  “Many people have contributed to the success of this product. They all have a vested interest in promoting Greer as the all-American city.”

Mark Tucker did the graphic design for GreerToday.com, which was launched one year ago. The multi-media site has produced over 2,200 stories, 1,100 calendar items, and has a library of photo and video galleries.  Tucker is also the design editor of the critically acclaimed Yellow Jackets Fall Sports Magazine.

Scott Stevens is co-partner of GreerToday.com and has pioneered Facebook and other social media applications that have extended the news site’s reach and audience well beyond the market’s demographics.  Stevens provides all the original coding and underlying content management system (cms). He lives in Greer, owning the The Davenport event venue and YourMark.com, a Web Development company. Stevens is active in community and business activities in Greer and the Upstate.

Fair, who also lives in Greer, has worked in the industry his entire life and is a state and national award-winning journalist. His innovativeness led to the creation of a Braille sports page, kids sports section staffed by elementary students, and has been involved in state, regional and national professional journalism organizations. He has presented at several conventions.

GreerToday.com also mentors interns in various communications/journalism print and electronic disciplines.
