Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport (GSP) set a record for annual passenger activity Thursday.
The previous record was 2,317,984 set in 2018. Since opening in October 1962, More than 50 million passengers have flown in and out of GSP.
American Airlines flight AA5563 from Philadelphia surpassed the record. Passengers aboard the record-breaking flight were greeted with a celebration at the gate and received $100 airline gift cards and one week of free parking in the airport’s daily parking lot.
Since opening in October 1962, more than 50 million passengers have flown out and into GSP. Fifty gift cards were given away to celebrate the airport’s 50 million passenger benchmark.
“This is truly a momentous day at Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport,” said Dave Edwards, president and CEO. “GSP is proud to be the region’s hometown airport and we are thrilled to share this achievement with the many customers who have made GSP their airport of choice.”
New nonstop service has been added to six cities, more flights and larger jets have been part of GSP’s growth in the past 18 months.
