GSP will experience its busiest day of year Wednesday

Keeping with the Thanksgiving holiday tradition, Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport in Greer will have its busiest travel day of the year on Thursday.

Rosylin Weston, vice president communications, said GSP loads will reach at least 80-85 percent and “the week of Thanksgiving is our busiest of the year.” Westin began getting early passenger reports from carriers a week ago.

The addition of Southwest Air flights, flying out of and arriving with nearly full loads of passengers, will make GSP busier than it’s been in past years. “Passenger traffic picks up on Tuesday and Wednesday is the heaviest,” Weston said. “Thursday and Friday night people are at their families and friends and it begins to get busy again on Saturday. Sunday is huge,” Weston said.

Weston reminds passengers to arrive at least one hour early before flights depart and offers tips on packing. “Pack some patience before departing,” Weston said. “Also dress and pack smart.”

Passengers may be wise, according to Weston, not to wrap their Christmas gifts until they reach their destination. “If TSA scanners can’t see what’s in the package and something questionable shows up, they will ask the package to be unwrapped.”

Weston suggests passengers visit the TSA website for information.

When asked if Weston would be in town this week or jet to another location she smiled and said, “I’ve never flown on these holidays. I know better.”
