Clean hands can stop germs from spreading from one person to another and throughout an entire community.
St. Francis Health System is leading a hand washing campaign to emphasize a way to help decrease the spread of common illnesses like colds and flu, and also more serious diseases like hepatitis A, meningitis, and infectious diarrhea.
Michelle Bushey, Director of Infection Prevention and Patient Safety, Bon Secours St Francis Health System said “we remind our employees, patients and families daily about the importance of good hand hygiene and give out small bottles of hand sanitizer to help patients remember. We also actively engage our patients and ask if their healthcare workers wash their hands as they enter and exit the room and we encourage them to also ask employees if they washed their hands. We want patients to know its ok.”
Hand washing is easy to do and it’s one of the most effective ways to prevent the spread of many types of infection and illness in all settings—from your home and workplace to child care facilities and hospitals.
