Reese Hannon suffered an ankle injury with less than four minutes remaining in the third quarter. It appears to be a season-ending injury.
Hannon completed 21 of 30 passes for 221 yards before the injury with four minutes remaining in the third quarter.
Hannon, a junior, is sidelined for the remainder of the year.
Hannon suffered an oblique strain and injured knee last season before coming back to lead Furman to its Southern Conference football championship. He guided the Paladins to a 5-0 finish for the title.
It’s the second year in a row Furman has lost a quarterback to a season-ending injury in the opening game versus Gardner-Webb. Dillon Woodruff broke a shoulder and missed the rest of the season.
Woodruff took over for Hannon in the final quarter Saturday.
Hannon was a standout at Greer High School.
Justin Hill, Hannon's cousin and former Greer graduate, quarterbacked Furman to back-to-back Southern Conference championships in 1999 and 2000. Hannon was trying to duplicate that feat this year.
