Jonathan Hicks has had a sparkling first four games of the season leading Greer's defense in tackles and assisted and sacks. He holds a trophy given to him after a career game against Union. At Greenville last Friday Hicks again led the defense and earned the week's Football Student-Athlete of the Week Award.
The award is for excellence as a student and athlete.
Greer Head Football Coach Will Young said Hicks is playing at a level rarely scene defensively. “He’s good tackler, can cover a lot of the field with his speed (4.5 yards in the 40) and is the leader on defense,” Young said.
Greer is 2-2 after four games, beating Riverside in Game 2 and Union County in Game 3. The Yellow Jackets lost to Seneca in the season-opener and to rival Greenville last Friday, 24-21.
“Four plays made the difference in the game,” Hicks said. “We just have to work a little harder for next week’s game.”
Hicks led the defense last week with 10 tackles, 5 assists, 3 hurries, 1 tackle for loss and 3 sacks. One week before Hicks had a career day with 28 tackles (18 individual) and five sacks.
The senior linebacker, through four games, has 50 tackles and 23 assists, more than doubling any teammate in those categories.
Walmart and GreerToday.com are the presenting sponsors of the weekly award. The Clock Restaurant presents a certificate to the Football Student-Athlete and his guest for a meal.
