That was a tweet by Congressman Jeff Duncan (R-S.C.) of the third district after a gunman opened fire on a group of congressional Republicans practicing baseball in Alexandria, Va., Wednesday morning.
“I was at the Congressional baseball practice, but left before the shooting to catch an earlier meeting,” Duncan tweeted. “I believe I saw the shooter and am in the process of giving a statement to the police. Please pray for my colleagues, I am unsure of their condition.”
The gunman, armed with a rifle, was reportedly shot by a member of Scalise’s security detail, who had been hit before returning fire.
Alexandria Police Chief Michael Brown confirmed five people had been taken to area hospitals.
