The 8,192-square-foot building will employ 26 employees and has nine exam rooms, two procedure rooms, a lab and imaging services.
Patients coming to the ICC after June 6 will receive care despite the official opening a week later, according to a Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System (SRHS) official.
The Immediate Care Center hours are Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
It is the first (SRHS) immediate care center in Greenville county, virtually on the border of Greer and the Thornblade community. “That’s the key zip code area for us. We don’t have anything over this way and this is really a great spot,” said Tony Kouskolekas, President of Pelham Medical Center.
The 8,192-square-foot building will employ 26 employees and has nine exam rooms, two procedure rooms, a lab and imaging services. Doctors Wayne Davis, Robert E. McDonald and Priya Vasudevan are joining the practice, in addition to three nurse practitioners.
“What is different about this model is you can come here for your primary care if you want to,” said Kouskolekas. “You may like this place and may like the doctor. That’s why we staffed with family medicine teams so that they can stay with them. Most people, though, will use the immediate care center for urgent care.”
The boomer generation is requiring more care facilities. “There is an aging population, so you are going to get to a point, with hundreds of thousands of boomers who are going to need care,” said Kouskolekas. “Most of the people generate care later in life.
“We are very excited to add another medical facility in the Greenville community,” said Kouskolekas. “The Immediate Care Center-Pelham is needed in this growing area of Greenville and represents our commitment of offering close-to-home/close-to-work services to those we serve. This location will offer an excellent blend of quality and service that our customers deserve.”
Phil Feisal, President of Spartanburg Medical Center, has seen the medical facilities in greater Greer experience explosive growth, first with the rebranded Pelham Medical Center (PMC), the Gibbs Cancer Center and Research Institute and the immediate care center. PMC will be undergoing an expansion to coincide with the $65 million Gibbs Cancer Center expansion announced two weeks ago.
“The vision for Pelham was pretty broad from the beginning,” Feisal said, describing the I-85/Highway 14 area. “We bought 150 acres at that campus and you don’t do that unless you’re going to grow significantly over time. We’ve had great success with patient satisfaction and the volume has had us add on to that facility (PMC). We have a clinical expansion and this (immediate care center) broadens our footprint.
“There is so much good stuff going on that Tony (Kouskolekas) is riding a machine right now that will continue to grow. We are prepared and it’s exciting,” Feisal said.
Pelham Medical Center (PMC) is a division of Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System. There are two immediate care centers in Spartanburg.
